We would greatly appreciate your help with spreading the word about the restoration project for the Old Log Church, the first church in Black Forest, where many of our local congregations got their start before building their own buildings. The Old Log Church on Shoup Road is a landmark we believe the entire community would like to see restored and preserved. Please share the information below, including the GoFundMe link, in whatever social media and print methods you would like. All of the information below is also on the gofundme page.
Yours in Christ,
The Old Log Church Restoration Committee
Hope to see you at the Festival!
From the very beginning, the Black Forest Community Log Church has truly been a Community effort. In 1939, twenty dedicated, hard-working folks, including Edith Wolford (yes, of the elementary school nearby) and her husband, hand-built the Black Forest Community Log Church.
As this was the first church built in the Black Forest many other community organizations also used the log church building including the Catholic, Baptist and LDS congregations, (until they built their own places of worship), and more recently the Boy Scouts, Alcoholics Anonymous and several dance/fitness groups, not to mention weddings and other special events.
We are very proud to announce that in 2016 the Black Forest Log Church was officially listed on the Colorado Historical Registry.
Over the years, nature has taken its toll on this beautiful building. Critters have gnawed on the hand-hewn logs, and water has rotted the wood. The Black Forest Community Church members have faithfully attempted to maintain this historic site. Now, once again, the Log Church needs the community to help restore this treasured piece of Black Forest history. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!!!!
This year, grant money has been bestowed for the restoration and preservation of the Log building, with the requirement of a 25% ‘cash match’ of $5, 500.00, from the community.
The exterior of the Log building will be restored to its original condition, to include stripping paint, replacing chinking, and wooden double-paned windows.
PLEASE HELP PRESERVE THE OLDEST CHURCH IN THE FOREST!
